“We’re all mad here.” ~ Cheshire Cat, Alice in Wonderland
Are you like me and a big fan of inspiration boards? I find they really get me excited about an event, and also help me set off on the right path to planning the exact party I want to host. While no one does inspiration boards better than my friend, Melissa, I’ve decided to start doing them occasionally, too! Oftentimes, the parties we see focus on the desserts and the dessert tables, (which I have NO problem with!) but I thought I’d like to try my hand at sharing tablescape inspirations.
During the planning process, the tablescape can sometimes seem a bit like an afterthought, something that looks nice, but doesn’t really make a huge statement. I’m just as guilty of this as anyone, but I plan on doing better in the future…and I hope I’ll provide some ideas that will help you do the same thing!

For my first tablescape inspiration board, I chose to go with an Alice in Wonderland theme, because it’s a party that I’ve ALWAYS wanted to host. I’d LOVE the idea of an Alice in Wonderland party for grown ups, or even a wedding! While most of these pictures are aimed at children, there are still wonderful ideas that we can take and incorporate into our own planning, no matter the age of the party girl.
Based on all of the searching I’ve done, I’ve come up with a few suggestions when creating an Alice in Wonderland inspired tablescape:
1. Unless your guests are really small, pull out the plates collecting dust in your china cabinet. Don’t worry if they all match, the variety is what makes it interesting!
2. If your guests are smaller, you can do the same thing with paper plates, and again, mix it up! I really like these from The TomKat Studio because of the variety of colors and styles. Just don’t go TOO crazy with the mixing, you don’t want it to look like you’ve pulled a bunch of leftover plates out of the cabinet and threw them on the table!
3. Don’t forget the printable tags! An Alice in Wonderland party just isn’t an Alice in Wonderland party without the “Eat Me” and “Drink Me” tags. There are so many collections available on Etsy, in a wide variety of styles, so you’re sure to find just what you need for your party.
4. The brighter the colors, the better! Think back to the movie of Alice in Wonderland…Wonderland wasn’t a land of subtle shades of vintage hues. It was bright and colorful! While you absolutely could pull off a more toned down color palate for an adult party, don’t forget to add some pops of color to keep it from getting boring. This isn’t a theme that promotes taking yourself too seriously!
I hope you’ll find these inspiration boards helpful when planning your own parties. Please be sure to check back often, because I’m already working on some other boards as well!
