PRODUCTS I LOVE: CALLIGRAPHY PENS

As a child, my aunt and uncle got me a calligraphy starter set for my birthday one year.  I was SO excited to receive it, and I just knew that I would master that fancy script in no time at all.  I remember sitting down with the book and practicing the letter “A” over and over again.  Unfortunately, that’s about as far as my mastery of calligraphy went.  Sure, I probably learned a few more letters than just “A” but I never came near to being able to call myself a calligrapher.

And now, I look at the beautiful calligraphy that some of my talented friends share online and I’m envious…and kicking myself for not finishing up learning it when I had the chance.

Someday, I’ll buy myself another starter set and pick up where I left off years ago, but until then, I’m going to fake it!

I recently bought this pen at Michael’s and it’s changed my writing a ton already! While this example is nowhere near my best, it is really cool to use one of these pens and see what happens to your everyday handwriting.  Imagine how wonderful it would be if we actually knew what we were doing with these pens!

Here’s the pen you’ll be looking for.  It’s pretty cheap, around $6.00, I believe.  For me, I thought it wasn’t the best idea to invest a lot of money in a calligraphy pen before I knew if I’d even be able to write with the thing! So, I went the less expensive route and have been pleased with the results.

These pens will come in handy if you want to hand write a place card, or a menu, or even for signing a card to a friend.  Handwritten things always seem more personal, don’t they? And even though we may not be calligraphers, (YET!) we shouldn’t be afraid to try and make the things we chose to hand write look as good as possible! Good luck and happy Tuesday!
