DECORATING WITH JANE AUSTEN

First of all, let me just share with you for a moment, the way I started my morning.  When I took my kids to school, the sun was shining and it looked like it was going to be a beautiful day.  Sure, I noticed some darker clouds out in the distance, but it wasn’t anything to really get excited about.

Then, I got home…and ten minutes later, this was the scene.

There was a stripe in the sky! It stretched for miles and it was the strangest thing I’d ever seen! Then, came the wind, lots and lots of wind…and then the rain.

Now, I like a good storm as much as anyone, but my storm love comes with conditions.  I’d like them to come only during the daytime because nighttime storms are way scarier.  I’d also like them to check with me ahead of time to make sure that my husband and children are at home and safe with me, not spread out here, there, and everywhere.  If we can come to an agreement on these terms, I’ll allow the storms to move through my town…as long as things don’t get too crazy!

Anyway, I’ve gotten a little off topic…back to the reason for my post!

I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book!
~ Jane Austen, “Pride and Prejudice”

Over the weekend, my mailman brought this lovely item straight to my front door from Dear Lillie, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite pieces in my home.  It’s a lovely silhouette, isn’t it? What makes this silhouette unique? It’s JANE AUSTEN!

If you read my blog regularly, you know I absolutely adore Jane Austen.  Her books are so well written and the stories will always have you swooning.  Trust me.  So, when I came across this embroidery hoop silhouette, (and reasonably priced, I might add!) I just knew that I had to have it.

The only problem was that I had absolutely no idea what I was going to do with it once I received the piece.  I tried it on my mantle, but wasn’t happy with it.  I tried it sitting on a few other pieces of furniture as well, but none of them gave me the look I wanted.

Then, I had a thought.  I grabbed some ivory ribbon, and tied a little slipknot through the top of the embroidery hoop.

Then, a little bow at the top, and this was ready to slip over one of the hooks on my hall tree!

Now, Jane is hanging right by my front door ready to greet visitors that come over.  I can see it hanging from my couch, so in the evenings, I love to see it hanging there in my cozy little foyer…that’s normal, right?
