DIY Valentine’s Day Plate

Recently, my friend Melissa posted the cutest DIY coffee mug project that was perfect for Valentine’s Day.  I filed it away in the back of my mind as something I’d like to do someday and moved on…

Little did I know how quickly I’d need that tutorial!

While working on a guest post for another amazing website, I wanted a simple plate to add a little style to photos of the recipe I was sharing.  I knew a Valentine’s Day plate would be perfect, but I’m kind of picky about my decor when it comes to Love Day.  I like things simple, not the over-the-top hearts and flowers that we sometimes associate with this holiday.  I’m a bit of a Valentine’s Day Scrooge that way, I suppose…

So, this Love Day plate is right in my comfort zone.  And unbelievably easy to make.  We all know the process.

1.  Draw on plate with Sharpie./2. Bake plate in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes./3. Allow plate to cool./4.  Hand wash only.

I made a pattern on a piece of paper and used a hole punch to punch out the circles so that I’d have perfect little circles on my plate.  If you’re brave enough to freehand it, go for it! I taped my template down on the plate to keep it from scooting around while I was making my circles.  {And yes, that would be my son’s hockey tape holding the template in place…why can I NEVER find Scotch tape around here?!?!}

Up close and personal with my Love Day plate.

It’s cute and it’s definitely going into my prop stash for future Valentine’s Day posts.  If you wanted to be adventurous and make a whole set of these, you could have the whole thing done in about 45 minutes, which includes the baking time for the plates.

Happy Monday, everyone!
