The Greatest Brownie Recipe…Ever!

Oh my goodness, friends, I LOVE brownies.  Brownies are the ultimate treat.  They’re delicious on their own, topped with ice cream, warm out of the oven, or the next day…you can’t go wrong! While I have NO problem with brownies from a mix, recently, I was hungry for some brownies, but didn’t happen to have a mix on hand, so I found a recipe online and gave it a try.

At the risk of sounding bossy, let me just say…..you. must. try. this. recipe!!! You know those recipes when immediately after you try it, you instantly text your dearest friends telling them that they, too, must try the recipe? THIS is one of those recipes…and yes, I actually did text my friends…

These brownies are a fudge brownie as opposed to a more cake brownie, which I definitely prefer.  AND, they bake in a 9×13 pan, which is kind of unusual for a from scratch recipe.  Because really, an 8×8 pan?? That would be gone in my house in a matter of hours! When it comes to brownies, it’s definitely a case of “go big or go home”!

I used the Christmas chocolate chips that are available in stores now for my brownies to give it a more festive look, but feel free to use whatever you like…they’re your brownies, go crazy!

So, here is the recipe I used.  Bookmark the site…you’ll be back…often!

{Recipe} Brownie Batter Bark

My daughter and I LOVE brownies.  It’s easily one of our favorite desserts.  While we love brownies after they’re baked, we also really love brownies BEFORE they’re baked! Brownie batter is SO good! (And yes I know, you’re not supposed to eat the batter, but it’s so hard to stay away from it!) So, today, when I was looking for something sweet, I looked in my cupboards and found some milk chocolate, and brownie mix, and the idea for BROWNIE BATTER BARK was born!

Let me apologize for not having a specific recipe.  I didn’t make this to post, but after we tried it, I knew we had to share it with you all.  So, I’ll just explain to you what I did, and hopefully you’ll be able to make it work in your own home!

HERE ARE THE INGREDIENTS I USED:

Milk Chocolate
Dry Brownie Mix
Butter
Sprinkles

AND HERE’S WHAT I DID:

  1. I melted some butter. Since I just made a small amount to settle my sweet tooth craving, I melted 1 tablespoon of butter and added 4 tablespoons of brownie mix. If you’re making a larger batch, I’d suggest you at least triple this.
  2. I melted some chocolate. I had milk chocolate on hand, and it’s my favorite so I used it. Again, I just used a small amount, but if you’re making more you may want to use approximately a half package of chocolate almond bark.
  3. I mixed the chocolate and the brownie batter together and spread it out on a sheet of waxed paper. I added some sprinkles, just for some color and stuck it in the freezer to harden. (This happens quickly!)
  4. After the bark has hardened, simply break it apart into individual sized pieces.

Honestly, this tastes like a brownie batter candy bar…sooooo good! I apologize that my recipe’s not more exact, if I knew I’d be posting this I would have taken better notes!

How to Get Rid of that Halloween Candy

Yesterday, I’d had it…enough candy! Not that I don’t love it, what I don’t love is my inability to stay out of it.  So, I knew something had to be done.  While going through the leftovers, I noticed that I had about 5,487 Hershey bars, and immediately the solution popped into my head.

Brownies, Brownies, Brownies!

I am completely happy at this moment…I’ve just dropped my kids off at school, the windows in my house are open and it’s a cool morning…such a perfect break from the hot, humid temperatures we’ve suffered through this summer! Fall is definitely in the air, and I couldn’t be happier about it! To go along with my great mood this morning, I’m going to now share with you something else that makes me happy…brownies!!

Now, before I go any farther, let me share something with you. I’m a brownie snob. I admit it, I’m not proud of it…or maybe I am.

Not a snob in the way that I won’t eat it unless it’s made with the finest chocolate and organic ingredients, but a snob in the way that I do NOT prefer a “cakey” brownie.  Personally, if I wanted something chocolate and cakey…I’d eat a chocolate cake because then it comes with chocolate frosting! Give me a fudge-y, slightly undercooked brownie any day and I could eat the whole tray!

Before I go any further, let me apologize in advance for what I’m about to do to your diets….

YUM!! Now, what sparked this specific post, you may ask? Yesterday, I was getting ready to bake a batch of brownies and was looking for something extra to add into the batter to make it just a little bit better.  I decided to add some Nutella, and I’m so glad I did! I used all I had left in my house, about 1/2 cup, and it was good, but more would have been even better!

Want some ideas for other delicious treats you can mix into your brownie batter? Well, here you go!

  • Caramels (Thanks, Michelle for suggesting this one!)
  • Brandy soaked cherries (Thanks, Annie for suggesting this one!)
  • Chocolate Chips (semi-sweet, white, milk, butterscotch, peanut butter…the list goes on and on!)
  • Toffee bits
  • Chopped peppermint patties
  • M&M’s
  • Cream Cheese (soften it first, and swirl it into the batter)
  • Nuts (Walnuts, Pecans, Macadamia)
  • Chopped candy bars (Snickers or Twix would be my first choice!)

There are so many other options that would be delicious…get creative and experiment! If you discover something that’s particularly tasty, please let me know!

And, one last tip…when it’s time to cut the brownies, head straight to your disposable cutlery and grab a plastic knife.  The brownies will cut perfectly, without any tearing!
