{BOOKS} ENTERTAINING IN THE FRENCH STYLE

I adore entertaining books.  In a time where everyone’s so busy, getting together with friends and family outside of holidays seems to be placed on the back burner.  (In my life, as well!) So, reading books about those who still entertain regularly always captivates me…and makes me a teensy bit jealous.  Today, I read a charming book called Entertaining in the French Style by Eileen Johnson.  While this book wasn’t exactly what I thought it was going to be when I purchased it, however it was still a nice read nonetheless.

The book follows the author on a journey through France where she stops and visits locals.  She then describes the experiences she had at each home.  Some people served her breakfast, some dinner, some places she stopped only for tea.  Still, it was interesting to read about the locations she visited as well as learn a little bit about the people.

I initially thought that this book would give more “instructions” of how the French entertained, but instead, she described each visit in such detail that one could get the idea of their style of entertaining.  Everything was extremely casual, and the common theme used throughout seemed to be simple dishes prepared with local ingredients…a concept I ADORE!

Doesn’t this look delicious? Simple, organic ingredients served with fresh bread, and of course, good wine! This book shares a recipe from each location she visited.  From couscous to vin d’orange to clafoutis, this book isn’t short on good recipes!

If you’re looking for a quick, easy read with lovely photography, I highly suggest picking up this book.  I read it in a day, and felt as though I’d taken a little vacation to a place I’ve never been!
