My Favorite Things for Fall

It’s almost October, the weather is finally cooling off a bit, and pumpkins (and even Christmas trees!!) are appearing everywhere we go.  Today, I’m sharing a few of my favorite things for fall.  These are the items that tell me every year that my favorite season of all has arrived…and instantly, I’m happier.

1. I LOVE to snuggle up in a soft, cable knit sweater in the cooler months.  (Not the itchy kind, though!) While I could live day in and day out in my favorite hoodies, the sweater gives me the comfort of my hoodies, but looks just a little bit better. {sweater: H&M}

2. Yankee’s Harvest candle has been burning in my home since I was a little kid.  Some scents automatically make you feel something specific, and this candle never fails to make me feel like fall, no matter what time of year. {candle: Yankee}

3.  My beloved Burberry scarf has been a staple in my wardrobe for nearly 10 years.  I’ll never forget that after I bought it, my husband found the receipt, they had labeled the scarf “winter wear” and he asked me if I’d bought a new coat! Not quite, dear! {scarf: Burberry}

4.  I love heels as much as the next person, but they really aren’t practical for the every day wardrobe of a stay at home mom.  While I don’t have these boots exactly, ($800…ouch!) I do have brown and black boots that I wear often during the fall and winter…and even the spring! {boots: Burberry}

5.  Twining’s English Breakfast Tea is my absolute favorite of all teas.  Add just a little sugar, and you’ve got a delicious drink that will warm you up inside and out.  (And don’t think you have to drink it only for breakfast, it’s delicious any time of day!) {tea: Twinings}

6. During the cool, dreary, short days of fall and winter, it’s a perfect time to cozy up with my favorite classic novels and a cozy blanket.  I could lay around all day reading books like Pride & Prejudice, Wuthering Heights, and of course, my favorite, Jane Eyre.  If you’ve not read any of these books, I highly recommend you give them a look! {photo: google}

7.  I’ve worn my red pea coat for almost as many years as I’ve had my Burberry scarf.  The classic cut of the pea coat will never go out of style, but the red color gives it a bit of pop.  It’s comfy and cozy, and I love it! The pea coat pictures if from Alexander McQueen, mine is from Old Navy…comparable, right?? {pea coat}

5 Books I Love

The other day, I was reading this post on Joy the Baker…(who recently made a book tour stop in St. Louis resulting in a slightly awkward TV appearance on Great Day St. Louis.  The movie Ghost will never have the same meaning to me again!)

Sorry, I got off track a bit.  I believe I’m the only person who can get off topic in the very first sentence of a post.

Anyway, I really liked the idea about making lists, and since Mondays are always hard for me when it comes to posts, (because do you really care that I went to sports practices or did laundry over the weekend??) I decided to start doing a “5 Things” list on Mondays, and I’m kicking it off with 5 books I love.

Le Petit Prince.   (Also known as The Little Prince) I LOVE this book…I’ve loved it since the first time I had to read the original version in French class.  It’s written for children but with messages that apply to adults as well.  It’s great to read when we start to feel a bit overwhelmed; this book is a perfect way to put things into perspective.

Gone With the Wind.  I love this book so much, I’ve read it 5284 times.

Okay, I exaggerate…a bit…

I’ve read and re-read this book many times because I love the story so much, and I love how it spans years and years.  This is one of the rare instances where the movie is really close to being just as good as the book…and let’s not forget the music from the movie!

Yep, this picture hung in my room when I was in high school.

3.  East of Eden.  OK, full disclosure,  I read this book AFTER I watched the movie, and the only reason I watched the movie…..

My love for James Dean.  I’ve loved him since I was 15 years old, and posters of him decorated the walls of my bedroom, college dorm room, even my first apartment! (I’ve even been to “visit” him a few times!)

I loved the movie, and knew that the book couldn’t possibly be better than what I’d watched, but I was wrong.  The book wasn’t necessarily better, but it was more…more to the story that they couldn’t fit in the movie.  I’m sure that this “modern” interpretation of Cain and Abel will captivate you as much as it did me!

Pride and Prejudice.  I will ask you to read this book, and will leave you with only two words…Mr. Darcy.

Still not convinced?? How about this???

{image}

Still no??? Okay, here’s my last attempt…

The BBC’s version of Pride and Prejudice is not to be missed.  Colin Firth makes every movie he’s in better…..

Jane Eyre.  Greatest book of. all. time.  The End.  No more words necessary.

What are 5 books you love??? Please share them with me!
