Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

It’s Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial start of summer, and a great time of the year! Hopefully your plans involve spending time with those you love, eating lots of good food, and drinking lots of tasty beverages (grown-up or otherwise!).

Are you planning on making anything special to celebrate? If you’re still looking for inspiration, I’ve got a few Pinterest boards that are loaded with suggestions!

My Patriotic Party Ideas board has lots of suggestions for red, white, and blue decorating and foods…and also a few images of places I wish I was spending my Memorial Day! A girl can dream, can’t she?

I also have a board for Summertime Drinks that will be sure to cool down even the hottest of days.  I plan on trying one or two of these recipes myself this weekend!

So, whatever your plans, I hope you have time to fit in plenty of relaxation time this holiday weekend…enjoy!!

4th of July Entertaining: Patriotic Party Mix

A few weeks ago, I was trying to think of a fun snack food that would be fun for kids and adults, but would also be perfect to serve for a 4th of July party.  That was when I came across these adorable little popcorn bags and knew I had to have them! So, with a little thought, the Patriotic Party Mix was born!

I enlisted the help of Laura from Eye Candy Event Details to create a sign for me that would coordinate with the adorable popcorn bags and I think she really hit it out of the park with this one! The two go together perfectly! The sign is brightly colored and also vintage looking at the same time, a perfect party combination.  Now, for the extremely complicated and labor intensive instructions on how to make your Patriotic Party Mix…

Step 1: Pop your favorite popcorn.  I chose microwave popcorn for this because it was faster, but any kind will be great.  The color was added by melting butter and adding liquid food coloring.  Drizzle the colored butter over your popcorn, and toss to spread it around!

Step 2: (Step 1, Step 2…is anyone else singing an old NKOTB song in their heads right now??) Lay out your favorite candies…and if they happen to be red, white, and blue, even better!

Step 3: Create your own custom party mix by mixing together your favorite candies and your popcorn.  If you don’t have these adorable popcorn bags, small bowls will do the trick just as well.

The best part about these party mix is that I was able to use things that I had on hand already.  Kids will have a great time picking and choosing their favorite candies and will love having their own bag to carry around and snack on!

Happy 4th of July, everyone!
